As touched on before, price competition forces many oil companies to blend motor oils from mixed sources. Whatever crudes are available are used. Often many marginal or low quality grades are utilized. Price is often the criteria in deciding rather than quality.
OMEGA Manufacturing Division, early in its research studies, recognized the importance of a high quality base crude in ensuring consistent and high performance lubrication properties.
The securing of the finest grades of base stocks are expensive and difficult to secure. OMEGA studies into the quality of 87 different oil field grades reinforced OMEGA’s contention that only the finest crudes should be used.
OMEGA is in the position of being one of the few independent lubricant producers that can secure the finest base crudes. OMEGA’s long history of high commercial integrity enables it to secure an added quantity of the rate, high-performance base stocks which are necessary for premium quality lubricants production. OMEGA uses only the finest grades of Pennsylvania, Mid-Continent U.S, pr select oils from quality prime world sources.
OMEGA’s research has shown that lubricant for various applications require different properties.
Examples:-
- A Refrigeration Oil may require a wax-free constitution while an oil suitable for high temperature application may benefit from a higher wax content.
- A Transformer Oil must be as free of water or moisture as possible.
- A Diesel Engine Oil, for use in some areas, may require a high total base number whereas if used in other areas, the requirements are different.
OMEGA’s dedication to using the highest grade base oil types enable careful control of every step of manufacture and precise monitoring or the additive contents. Computer technology is used extensively. OMEGA’s systems exclude possibilities of human error and enables strict blending tolerances to be maintained for every product.
OMEGA lubricants are engineered from the ground up with proprietary performance improvers, including -
- Anti-oxidants: High temperatures encountered in the increasingly high output engines of today attack oils by oxidation. Oxidation causes the formation of damaging engine deposits and tend to increase the viscosity of the oil. OMEGA lubricants utilize special, high efficiency oxidation inhibitors and anti-oxidants that help eliminate the oxidation problems.
- Dispersants: In the engine combustion cycle, soot and water are generated. Exhaust pollutants and road dust are, in addition, drawn into the engine (even through air filters). These contaminants block oil filters and circulatory lines and valves. A potentially damaging sludge is formed.
OMEGA’s proprietary dispersants break up sludge formation and enable the lubricant to keep them in suspension for easy drain removal.
- Viscosity Control Additives: All lubricants thicken when cold and thin out when subjected to heat. Every OMEGA lubricant contains special viscosity improvers that ensure a consistent viscosity range for the type of lubrication required. This helps machinery to operate under the most favourable lubrication range to ensure extended operational life and better lubrication.
- Corrosion Preventatives: During engine operation, acids and other corrosion causing substances are formed. These attack engine parts and can lead to poor engine operation and eventually, costly breakdowns. OMEGA lubricants are formulated with highly effective corrosion preventatives that neutralize damaging engine acids to circumvent potentially engine-damaging conditions.
- Extreme Pressure (E.P) Additives: Lubrication is basically the separation of metal parts by a fluid lubricant film. Wear of metal parts coming into contact with each other include friction, impact, welding, seizing, scouring, and other form of war. Highly-specialized E.P. additives in OMEGA lubricants prevent or drastically reduce wear.
These and many other additives that OMEGA calibrates into each OMEGA lubricant are extremely costly. By weight, many cost more than gold!
