During the 1950-1960 decade, several engineers recognized that there was a “missing link” between the operational capabilities of modern high-powered, high-speed equipment and that of the then currently available lubricants.
Exhaustive tests were made to determine whether productivity and service life of machinery could be improved significantly by using advanced lubricant technology.
Numerous laboratory tests and research projects, that began in the early 1950’s and only concluded in 1963, proved conclusively that better performance could be achieved. Pilot plants were set up to produce initial test batches. These consisted of literally hundred of different batches. Each batch would contain a slightly modified additives system differing from the preceeding batch and each would be subjected to a battery of tests.
In those instances when OMEGA engineers considered the widely-recognised, international tests insufficiently severe to measure lubricant performance, they devised even tougher ones to “limit” test OMEGA lubricants. With the co-operation of engine and machinery manufacturers, various OMEGA proprietary formulations were also tested under “real world” conditions (in addition to the standard tests such as the ASTM or U.S. Military “laboratory condition” tests).
The counsel and advice of numerous international experts were utilized when complexities were encountered that defied easy reference from the then available scientific journals.
Several well-known scientists and research laboratories provided OMEGA engineers with invaluable data and test results that proved beyond doubt that OMEGA’s initial thesis was correct. Better lubrication was attainable.
Today, almost 30 years later, the exhaustive research has borne fruit. OMEGA Manufacturing Division is recognized as the leader in Industrial Maintenance Lubrication.
